///Red Rack’em (Hot Coins)
Danny Berman aka Red Rack’em began releasing his naughty pirate soul remixes and disco edits between 2004-2006 and they were heavily supported by the likes of the Unabombers, Todd Terje, Swag, Yam Who, Prins Thomas as well as institutions such as Fat City and Piccadilly Records. He took a well earned break in 2007 and focused on getting his original productions up to scratch.
Danny returned to the Hot Coins disco project in 2008 with the Laissez Faire EP on Society Records which was awarded record of the week by Piccadilly and was well supported by Prins Thomas, Chris Duckenfield, Soul Mekanik and Bill Brewster to name a few. The lead track Norway Man was licensed to Fred Deakins ‘Nu Balearica’ comp on Ministry Of Sound. This led to him releasing the Valiant Truth EP in November 2008 with the mighty Tirk Recordings which was also massively supported on the disco and house scene.
Since then he’s released acclaimed disco, beatdown and house on labels such as Untracked, Autodiscoteque and Deep Freeze, Tirk, remixed Tricky for Domino Records and become an in demand DJ at large scale festivals like Glastonbury, Snowbombing, Matter, Bestival and The Big Chill. The Big Chill described his recent set as ‘one of the highlights of the festival’ and immediately asked to host it on their site http://www.bigchill.net/news/2009/10/red-rackem-on-big-chill-radio/
With new releases already in the bag for Untracked (getting Radio 1 play already), Detroit label Undertones, Shift Music and Home Taping, 2010 looks like it’s going to continue at the same pace for Danny!
Gilles Peterson has been his biggest supporter though, hammering not just Red Rack’em/Hot Coins tracks on Radio 1 (including his massively hyped remix of Joubert Singers ‘Stand On The Word’) but also previewing the exciting Marlinspike Detroit 2 step project on his Worldwide radio show.
Gilles has described Rack’em as ‘not being able to put a foot wrong right now’ and recently invited Danny to play at the 2009 Worldwide Awards where he had the honour of playing straight after Jazzanovas first ever UK live set. Dannys DJ set was then broadcast on Radio 1 after the awards on the Worldwide show and it got a fantastic response around the globe from the listeners. You can check out Dannys set on Radio 1 here (1 hour 29 mins into show)

GP also recently commissioned a Red Rack’em guestmix for the Worldwide International show which you can check here http://www.giantstep.net/releases/2242. Rob Da Bank and Mary Anne Hobbes have also been very supportive of the Rack’em sound on Radio 1 too.
Danny is also a respected radio broadcaster himself and his fortnightly Smugglers Inn podcasts (available at http://www.redrackem.com or search itunes for ‘smugglers inn’) are eagerly downloaded by leftfield beat heads from across the globe.
